Item up for sale is an amazing pair of antique leather wrapped binoculars made by Wilhelm Ludolph of Bremen, Germany. These piece were found with their original leather case. Underside of the metal framing around the objective lenses are marked “Busch”. The framing around the ocular lenses bear the Wilhelm Ludolph mark and location. The interior of lenses on both sides show soiling and need to be cleaned. Glass shows no chips, cracks , scratches or breaks on either side. When viewed through the lenses present a clear image. Black paint on exposed metal portions show paint and finish wear with patina consistent with age and use. Leather around the barrels is in remarkably good condition. Center wheel functions as it should with ocular barrels extending and retracting as they should. Binoculars show patina consistent with age throughout and soiling in the nooks and crannies and could use a detail cleaning. When fully retracted this piece measures 3-5/8″ top to bottom. When fully extended they measure 4-1/4″ top to bottom. Item measures 4-7/8″ wide by 2-3/8″ front to back on the objective lens side. Leather case shows wear, tear and color wear throughout with side seams showing seam separation on both sides. Surfaces show areas of leather loss and cracking throughout. Metal clasp in the lid is non functional. Clasp button is brass and bears a small bee emblem. Interior fabric shows wear, tear and soiling consistent with age and use. Case measures 4″ top to bottom by 5-3/4″ wide by 3-1/8″ in depth at the top of the case. Amazing piece from a rare and desirable maker that comes fresh to the market.
