I am selling, on behalf of my brother, his vintage carpentrytools that he is no longer able to use because of his health. I was chosen because we don’t have a brotherwho would actually know something about Stanley tools. I don’t know enough about Stanley tools to know if this No.51 Spoke Shave was manufactured by Stanley or just has a Stanley cutter onit. I know that the Stanley or Baileyname can be found on their planes, but I don’t know if the same was true withSpoke Shaves as there is a limited amount of surface available for such thingsto be in the mold. It looks just like the drawing in one of hisbooks about Stanley tools. It is 10-1/4inches long with a cutter 2-1/8 inches wide. The Stanley trademark stamped on the cutter was used 1912-1918. The onlydifference I can see compared to the drawing is that the tightening screw is awinged screw instead of finger screw. Iassume it was replaced because it is a lot easier to tighten securely andloosen with a winged screw because of the leverage advantage.
