Softer and less woody than big sagebrush, this aromatic evergreen shrub is widely distributed and grows well in grasslands, floodplains, and montane forests — Usually at higher elevations where it likes a higher water table than other sagebrush and can withstand periodic flooding. Perfect for increasing biodiversity, revegetation, native yards, erosion control and more. Growing 2-5ft tall. Hardy 3-7. Most commonly found east of the continental divide in smaller stands than you would see big sagebrush. It blooms mid summer and sets seed in the fall. Native to AK, OR, CA, ID, NV, UT, AZ, WY, CO, NM, Dakotas, NE and MN. Surface broadcasting or pressing down the seed into the soil usually produces the best results. Don’t sow more than 1/8th in deep.
