Royal Staffordshire Clarice Cliff Tonquin Red Transferware Ginger Jar Lamp Base Here is an uncommon and beautiful red or pink transferware ginger jar lamp base. Research indicates this is the “Tonquin” pattern by Clarice Cliff from the English maker, Royal Staffordshire. The underglaze is a creamy almost pale yellow color. The pattern features botanical and floral borders as well as scenes of the English countryside. The piece is marked on the lower interior with the number 4521 and “Made in England.” The lamp base has the form of ginger jar about 10.5” tall. The bottom is open and there is an opening for lamp parts at the top. The jar “lid” is formed in place; it does not lift off. This is a lovely piece which would mix and match well with other transferware patterns. This could be rewired and used as a lamp, or it can stand alone as it is as a decorative object. The base is in nice clean condition with no cracks or chips. There is all over, fine, age related glaze crazing. Please see all the photos to judge the quality and condition of this piece.
