NGC XF Tacitus AD275-276 Aurelianianus / Antoninianus Tacitus served as the Roman Emperor from 275 to 276 CE, undertaking campaigns against the Goths and the Heruli, earning him the title Gothicus Maximus. Born in Italy, a rarity among emperors of that era, he was appointed by the Senate. Tacitus, a revered statesman claiming descent from the renowned Roman author Tacitus, held various civil offices throughout his long life, including two consulships, one under Valerian and another in 273, garnering widespread respect. His brief rule, spanning just over six months, concluded with his death from fever in Tyana, Cappadocia, around June 276.
