While working as a furniture maker and playing flamenco guitar, he became interested in guitar making while visiting the workshop of famous guitar maker Marcelo Barbero I. In 1956, at the age of 25, his teacher Barbero I passed away, leaving behind his son Barbero Hijo, who was only 13 years old.
