Released by the taste-making Sub Pop label in 2005, INFINIHEART is a compilation of Canadian singer/songwriter Chad Van Gaalen’s 2001-2003 bedroom recordings. Although there is a spare quality to some of these tracks, this is by no means an easily classifiable lo-fi outing. In fact, amidst gentle, quirky, acoustic meanderings that showcase his fragile, high-pitched voice, Van Gaalen delves into organic electronica that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Four Tet album. An eclectic performer with a surprisingly wide sonic palate, Van Gaalen reveals a promising talent here.
