Gainesville, Virginia was an important Union Army supply depot on the Manassas Gap Railroad during the Civil War. An original Union Army Ordnance Invoice listing 259 rounds 12 pounder shells and 130 spherical shot rounds etc turned over by Captain Morris Shaff, at Gainesville, Virginia, Oct 28, 1863, to Capt RA Stanton, Ordnance Officer. 1p 8 x 11″ ptd/ink, w rev illus of the Ordnance crossed cannon seal. & signed by Captain Morris Shaff. Comes w service info for Captain Shaff, a West Point graduate who served as Ordnance Officer during the War.
