Make sure that when you are growing basil that you harvest he leaves often to encourage more growth for your plant. Sweet basil is commonly used in Italian dishes such as spaghetti. It is also used for pesto. Sweet basil can be used fresh or dried. Sweet basil also has other uses besides for culinary dishes. Sweet basil can be used to heal insect bites or stings. Sweet Basil has antibacterial properties and high amounts of Vitamin C and beta-carotene. This ancient Indian and Persian herb has been used for many years. English royalty preferred basil in both culinary and cosmetic uses. It has been called “the King of Herbs”. Basil deters flies and mosquitoes.
