This listing is for a very nice button / pin CHIEF BURNING WOOD FOR PRESIDENT 200 YRS: SHAME & DECEIT AUSTIN BURTON FOR VICE PRESIDENT BICENTENNIAL GUNS OF ’76 It is in very nice condition showing minimal signs of age. The pin measures approximately 2 1/4″ across Austin Burton ran for Vice President 4 times, claiming to be a Delaware Indian and despite his advocacy of a return to the gold standard, he once mailed New Hampshire’s Secretary of State a package of wampum – a four-foot length of snakeskin – as his filing fee for the primary. It was described at the time as being a “spoof” campaign, but In 1968 he ran in the Republican primary in New Hampshire and defeated four former Republican governors who were write-ins.
